Position Title: Veterinary Technician Internship

Reports to: Clinic Supervisor

Location: Orem, Utah

 

Position Summary:

The Veterinary Technician Intern will work alongside the
veterinary team in providing high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter surgeries, along
with advising and providing clients with additional services offered by the clinic.

 

Time Commitment/Internship Length:

A minimum of 20 hours per week. The clinic is open Tuesday through Saturday, and
shift availabilities vary between the hours of 7am-5pm.
 
There are several three to six month internships available. Start dates are available
throughout the year. Internships are unpaid, and housing and other travel expenses are
not provided. We will work with school commitments and clinical hours requirements.

 

Responsibilities:

• Assist with basic medical care, including but not limited to: Medicating, vaccinating,
nail trims, subcutaneous fluids, and microchipping
 
• Under staff supervision, assist staff with surgical induction, monitoring during
anesthesia, and with surgical recovery
 
• Obtain a comprehensive knowledge of veterinary anesthesia to include sterile
technique, basic knowledge of surgical instruments, and general pharmacology
 
• Actively promote early spay and neuter in dogs and cats to prevent pet
overpopulation
 
• Educate clients on vaccinations and other preventative care
 
• Perform daily cleaning and disinfecting of kennels, equipment, and clinic work
spaces, along with wrapping surgical packs
 
• After a short training period, assist staff with training new volunteers
 
• Responsible for detailed and accurate data entry to include medical records and
client information
 
• Demonstrate proper cross-contamination control protocol as instructed
 
• Other duties as assigned

diverse population of public, staff, and volunteers
 
• Open and willing to learn new skills and medical practices
 
• Ability to maintain attention to detail and focus while working in a fast-paced setting
 
• Demonstrate personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed
effectively and in a timely manner
 

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds
 
• Ability to effectively and safely handle dogs and cats with varying temperaments and
medical conditions
 
• Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including but not
limited to: Walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, climbing ladders, twisting, stooping,
squatting, cleaning, and bending
